What is known about this ship

Larch Lake (J489) is a Canadian Lake-group 126-ft MMS construction hull, completed as a naval minesweeper for transfer.

Class context: MMS II class

The MMS II class was the enlarged 126-foot British Admiralty wooden motor-minesweeper design associated with MMS 1001-1090 and the related Canadian Lake construction program. It carried magnetic, acoustic, and mechanical sweeping gear on a substantially larger hull than the earlier MMS I series while retaining simple diesel propulsion and dispersed small-yard construction.

Later service and disposition

Completed for direct transfer to Soviet naval service; not commissioned in the Royal Canadian Navy.

This ship is recorded as a member of MMS II class. Shared design history belongs on the class page; this page concentrates on the individual hull where evidence is available.
