Overview

Project 12700 Alexandrit is the Russian Navy’s current serial mine-countermeasures design, documented here by sixteen laid-down ships through Dmitry Glukhov.

Developed for Russian Navy, Project 12700 Alexandrit class belongs to the Mine warfare vessels family and is associated with Twenty-first century. Its documented designations include Minesweeper and Mine countermeasures vessel, while its intended roles include Minesweeping, Mine hunting, and Mine countermeasures.

Development and construction

The design uses a large monolithic fiberglass hull and modern remote/unmanned mine-countermeasures systems. Dated current sources override stale roster entries where construction status changed.

The documented program for Project 12700 Alexandrit class lists 16 laid down and 10 completed. These figures provide the clearest available measure of the class's planned and completed scale.

Design characteristics and intended role

The surviving classification data associates Project 12700 Alexandrit class with Fiberglass hull, Remote mine-countermeasures systems, Unmanned minehunting, and Mine-search sonar. Read together with the recorded roles of Minesweeping, Mine hunting, and Mine countermeasures, these attributes show the operational problem the design was intended to address without implying specifications that the sources do not establish.

The class record identifies Russian Navy as the principal design or service authority. Where individual ships changed navy, name, or pennant, those later identities are retained on the ship pages rather than treated as separate vessels.

Service history and class roster

Ten ships were commissioned by the September 2026 archive cutoff, including Polyarny on 30 April 2026; Dmitry Lysov and five later hulls remain under construction or fitting out.

The class roster currently links 16 ships. Named members include Afanasy Ivannikov, Alexandr Obukhov, Anatoly Shlemov, Dmitry Glukhov, Dmitry Lysov, Georgy Kurbatov, Ivan Antonov, and Leonid Balyakin. The linked ships are associated with Soviet Navy.

Historical significance

The class is the principal modern replacement line for older Soviet-designed minesweepers and is still in serial production.

Project 12700 Alexandrit class is most useful when read as both a design and a group of individual careers. The class page establishes the shared technical and operational context; the linked ship pages preserve differences in construction, service identity, deployment, transfer, preservation, and fate where those details are documented.
