Overview
The original Munsif program comprised three Pakistan Navy Tripartite/Éridan minehunters: Munsif, Muhafiz and Mujahid.
Developed for Pakistan Navy, Munsif-class minehunter belongs to the Mine warfare vessels family and is associated with Late Cold War, Post-Cold War, and Twenty-first century. Its documented designations include Minehunter, Minesweeper, and Mine countermeasures vessel, while its intended roles include Mine hunting, Minesweeping, and Mine countermeasures.
Development and construction
Munsif is the former French Sagittaire hull already present in the archive; Muhafiz was built in France and Mujahid was built in Pakistan with French assistance.
The documented program for Munsif-class minehunter lists 3 planned, 3 ordered, 3 laid down, 3 completed, and 0 cancelled. These figures provide the clearest available measure of the class's planned and completed scale.
Design characteristics and intended role
The surviving classification data associates Munsif-class minehunter with Low-signature mine-warfare platform, Mine detection, and Mine neutralization. Read together with the recorded roles of Mine hunting, Minesweeping, and Mine countermeasures, these attributes show the operational problem the design was intended to address without implying specifications that the sources do not establish.
The class record identifies Pakistan Navy as the principal design or service authority. Where individual ships changed navy, name, or pennant, those later identities are retained on the ship pages rather than treated as separate vessels.
Service history and class roster
All three documented original-program hulls are documented without duplicating ex-Sagittaire. Former Dutch Haarlem and Middelburg remain outside the commissioned service roster until stable Pakistan names/pennants are documented.
The class roster currently links 3 ships. Named members include PNS Muhafiz and PNS Mujahid. The linked ships are associated with Pakistan Navy.
Historical significance
The class is a key test of the archive’s continuous-hull rule: the transferred French lead ship is one ship with two national service identities.
Munsif-class minehunter is most useful when read as both a design and a group of individual careers. The class page establishes the shared technical and operational context; the linked ship pages preserve differences in construction, service identity, deployment, transfer, preservation, and fate where those details are documented.
